Information on Hair Extensions is littered with trade specific descriptions. To help you delve to the bottom of these trade specific terms we’ve complied a glossary to give you a helping hand.
Acetone is a colourless volatile liquid ketone used as a solvent to dissolve keratin and adhesive based extension systems
Baseline is the base of the Hair Extension style. Extension Hair should always be point cut into, rather than cut in a straight line to create a natural looking base
Binds is the description we use for describing the cotton based Natural Hair Extension Attachment points
Bonds are the description for the connection points of glue based hair extensions
Bulk Extension Hair is loose real extension hair
Colour Ring Swatches of real hair colours, these are placed against the clients natural hair to achieve a true colour match
Colour Blending is the method of combining different coloured extension hair to create anything from contrasting stripes to block colour
Double Drawn Hair is hackled and trimmed on both ends so all hairs in the bundle will be the same length.
Fallen Hair is hair that has naturally shed, whist wearing hair extensions fallen hair is trapped in the hair extension attachment, this is combed out during the hair extension removal process
Hair Merchant a hair supplier who collects raw virgin hair and personally prepares it
Remy/Remi Hair extension hair has it’s cuticle intact and is root to point correct
Root to point Correct Extension hair needs to be stored and applied with the cuticles all lying in the same direction. It the roots and the points run against each other the extensions hair will tangle severely
Single Drawn Hair is trimmed on one end meaning the lengths of extension hair will differ throughout the bundle.
