The attachments themselves require no aftercare considerations but you must familiarise yourself with specific hair manufacturers guidelines. Go through the aftercare sheet, these are generic instructions but always remember to add specific product recommendations.
An extension brush is necessary for this type of attachment so the client can brush her hair freely without snagging. There are many available. Choose a plastic brush with balls and soft bristles; my favourite is American Dream Ionic brush.
Invite the client back after 10 days so you can check her scalp for tension spots. This also gives you the opportunity to ensure is having any difficulty with her extensions. Although the attachments require no specific maintenance, the extension hair will benefit from thorough deep conditioning and thorough cleansing. Offer a maintenance program including invigorating scalp cleansing, which will stimulate the scalp and strengthen hair follicles. Arrange this at a time when the salon is usually quiet and encourage her to book in for some extra services.
During the consultation you will be given a valuable insight into the lifestyle and hair care routine of your client. It’s also a great to establish if there are any products or services she may need or if she is unhappy with any products or services she is receiving. This give you the opportunity to recommend anything you may think will make your clients life easier.
Removal should be as simple as guiding the extension hair down the hair shaft. If there is matting and tangling, take time to remove as much extension hair as possible, by cutting the attachments loose with scissors, whilst gently combing the hair, use a detangling solution or a conditioner to help the process. Patience is important and it is imperative not to pull or tug at the natural hair.
There will be a lot of fallen hair once the extensions have been removed; this is normal so reassure the client if she becomes alarmed. Perform a ‘scalp check’ by carefully checking over the scalp to ensure there are no areas of hair loss or tension spots.
